Rolling Hills Rodeo Association (RHRA) is one of the Northwest's largest, self-produced, timed event rodeos (no rough stock) for youth and families. This organization is youth focused, yet allows the opportunity for other family members to compete in the same overall event. RHRA has hosted multiple accounts of 3 generations competing in the same rodeo at once. Our mission is to teach foster sportsmanship, work ethic & family values while competing in an environment focused on safety and growth.
The roots of RHRA originate a little further into the Washington Palouse. A previous organization called Palouse River Ropers Association (PRRA) was formed in the early 90's when several families gathered together to produce an event for kids and families. Over the years the facilities & families changed and things evolved as they always do. In 2014, RHRA was formed and has been hosted in Rosalia, WA since it's inception.
“A Family Tradition”
RHRA is a non-profit an organization that is devoted to promoting western traditions, family values and personal growth through the sport of rodeo. We are focused on family, community, sportsmanship and personal growth of our members and participants, while keeping safety top of mind. While RHRA is open to all ages of participants this organization hosts a family and youth centered atmosphere where a majority of our resources are dedicated to our youth contestants. There are many opportunities available to be focused strictly on “competition, the win & hunting awards or prize money;” The types of events where you can haul in, unload, lay down a run and then hit the rodeo road onto the next one – BUT – RHRA is not that association!
RHRA has a culture rooted in family values, community, and sportsmanship. This rodeo is about growth, cheering each other on, having dinner at your competitor’s trailer, lending a hand, and learning that these events aren’t produced without effort and yes, of course some friendly competition! With so much of this world becoming focused on winning at all costs & social status, RHRA works hard to foster a different culture.
We hope to foster a culture where youth and adults can bond with like-minded individuals focused on growth, forming lasting relationships, exhibiting exemplary sportsmanship and respect, and learning the true meanings of “family traditions!”
When you become a part of the “family tradition” we ask that you help to uphold this culture and camaraderie.
The format and schedule of RHRA has evolved over the years and varied in days & number of events.
In 2019, a decision was made to host a series of 6 rodeos, over 3 weekends, to allow more opportunity for youth to rodeo while not having to commit to as much time or travel.
Each RHRA rodeo weekend we host two separate & individual rodeos; one Saturday and one Sunday.
Members & contestants may enter one or both days each weekend. Members may earn points at all rodeos they attend to count toward year-end awards; with a minimum of 4 being required to be eligible for awards.
A very popular and well celebrated aspect of our events is that we allow for onsite overnight dry camping on Friday & Saturday of our rodeo weekends. On Saturday nights, there are often fun, casual events that are organized or spontaneously breakout around the arena. This is a great time where families get to know each other and memories are formed.
Our age groups are based on the age of the individual as of January 1st of the current year.
Age groups are as follows:
*8-11 age group must pick one roping event only. These choices are offered as this tends to be an age
where there there is a large variance of skill and exposure in roping so for safety sake we provide options.
